The pistol round is the one round both teams enter with identical buying power. The market on it is fast, rehearsed and close to a coin flip.
The classic version of this market. The pistol economy is fixed and map defaults are well documented, so team-and-map tendencies are researchable, though the price stays near even for good reason.
Every other round in a tactical shooter is shaped by what happened in the previous one. The pistol round is not. Both sides open a half on the same fixed budget, enough for a sidearm, light armor and a small amount of utility, which is why the round is drilled as a set piece. It is one of the few esports markets where what you are betting on is preparation rather than firepower.
The result carries further than one point on the board. The winners bank a working economy, the losers face an anti-eco or a force buy, and the next two rounds are usually decided by that gap.
Two-way pricing on which team takes the round, plus derivatives:
A both-pistols bet is not one pistol price squared. Sides swap at half time, the rehearsed setup that worked on attack does not exist on defense, and the losing side adjusts between halves. Read it as a separate market.
Pistol markets sit close to even money, which is where operator margin is easiest to feel. If both sides are offered at 1.85, the implied probability of each is 1 divided by 1.85, roughly 54 percent. The two add to about 108 percent, and the excess is the operator's cut. In practice you need to be right more than 54 percent of the time on a round that is close to a coin flip, which is a demanding standard for anyone.
Confirm whether the bet settles on the round alone or is bundled with the following round, and what happens if a map is replayed. Pistol markets are also easy to confuse with first-kill markets, which resolve on a different event inside the same round.
Keep these positions small. The round is short, the variance is high, and a run of losses tells you very little about whether the read was sound.

No. It hands over an economic advantage that usually carries the next two rounds, but teams recover from losing both pistols often enough that it settles nothing on its own.
Because the outcome is close to a coin flip and neither side has an economic advantage in that round. The practical consequence is that the operator margin is a large share of your expected result, so stakes should stay small.
