StrategyEsports Arbitrage: The Maths Works, the Accounts Do Not

Arbitrage is one of the few betting ideas that is straightforwardly true. Back every outcome across books that disagree enough, and the result stops mattering. Nobody disputes the arithmetic.
What is in dispute is whether you can run it.
The check itself takes ten seconds
Convert each price to an implied probability by dividing one by the decimal odds, then add them up. Below 100 percent, an arb exists. Above, it does not.
Take a two-way market priced at 2.10 on each side. One over 2.10 is about 0.476, so the pair totals roughly 95.2 percent, leaving a 4.8 percent gap to split between the two stakes. Those numbers are invented to demonstrate the method. A 4.8 percent esports arb is not something you will find. Gaps that survive long enough to actually bet are frequently under 2 percent, and often under 1.
Where esports gaps come from
Not from clever discovery. They come from one book being late.
Roster news is the main source. A stand-in announced on a team's social account moves the price at a book that watches for it and does not move the price at a book pricing esports off a data feed. Patch confirmations do the same thing, more slowly. Tier-two tournaments produce the widest gaps because nobody is paying attention, which is also precisely why the limits there are tiny.
That last point is the one arbing guides skip. A 2 percent gap on a market with a forty-unit maximum is worth well under a unit. You did the research, opened two tabs, moved money between accounts, and cleared less than a transfer fee.
The failure that matters
Not odds movement. Not a mistyped stake. Those are annoying and survivable.
The one that ends people is the second leg failing to land. You place side A, switch tabs, and side B has been suspended, limited below the stake you need, or is later voided as a palpable error. At that point you are not arbing. You are holding a straight, full-sized position that you never wanted, on a side you specifically identified as the wrong end of the price.
One of those cancels a great many 1.5 percent wins.
And then the account quietly closes
Books detect arbing easily, because arbers look nothing like recreational customers. Odd stake sizes at maximum limits, always on the best available price, never on the promotions, never on the accumulators.
The response is usually not a ban notice. It is a stake limit: your maximum on esports drops to a few units and stays there, and the account stops being useful without ever being closed. Arbing is legal almost everywhere and against almost every operator's terms at the same time. Those two facts coexist comfortably, because the penalty is commercial rather than legal.
What it actually is
A low-margin operational job with a fixed lifespan per account, meaningful capital locked across several books, and a tail risk that arrives shaped like a full-sized losing bet. Some people run it well. They are running a small business rather than a betting strategy, and they know roughly how long each account has left.
If you want the honest version of the same instinct without the account risk, shop lines on the bets you were going to place anyway. Same discipline, none of the exposure, and nobody limits you for it.

FAQ
Is esports arbitrage betting actually risk-free?+
No. While the maths aims to lock in a return across outcomes, real risks remain: odds can move or be suspended before you place both bets, bookmakers can void palpable errors, stake limits can stop you covering a side fully, and human mistakes happen. It is best described as low-margin, not risk-free.
Can bookmakers ban you for arbitrage betting?+
They can restrict or close your account. Arbing is legal in most regions, but it often conflicts with a bookmaker's terms of service. Operators monitor for arbitrage patterns and commonly respond by limiting stakes, refusing certain markets, or closing accounts, which is the most frequent way arbers are shut down.
