StrategyValorant Round Totals: Where the Attack and Defence Split Shows Up

If you have already worked out which maps a Valorant team is good on, the next question is what to do with it, and the answer is usually not the map winner.
Map winner is the market everyone reaches for and the one where a comfort-pick read gets absorbed into the price fastest. The round markets are slower, because they require an additional assumption that most bettors do not bother to make.
Maps are not side-neutral
A Valorant map is a piece of level design, and the design decides how expensive space is. Layouts where attackers can trade for map control cheaply produce different halves from layouts where a well-set defence can hold a site on utility alone.
This is not a small effect and it does not average out. It is the main reason two teams of similar overall strength generate wildly different round totals depending on where they are playing.
The follow-on point: a handicap is really a claim about halves. A team favoured to win a map by a comfortable margin has to be good on both sides of it, and plenty of teams are not. They win maps 13-10 by dominating one half and surviving the other.
Round totals are a format question too
Check how overtime works at the event before betting a total. Valorant maps go to 13, and a map that reaches 12-12 keeps adding rounds in pairs, so the tail on a round total is long and points in only one direction.
An over on a tight matchup is not simply a bet on close Valorant. It is buying a free option on overtime, and that option is worth more on maps and matchups that produce grinding halves than the line always reflects.
Where composition actually matters
Agent picks are glued to map geometry. The roles that work on a large open map are not the roles that work in tight, multi-entry sites. What you want to know is narrow: are this team's best players on agents that suit this map, or are they playing away from their strengths to make a composition function?
Track patch notes for the same reason. An agent or weapon change can quietly move a map's viability, and round-total lines are usually the last thing to update.
Bet after the veto
Obvious, and mostly ignored. Once the pick-ban is public you know which maps are being played and who chose them, which is a large amount of information relative to a pre-match series price. Map-by-map markets exist precisely so you can use it.
The correlation trap
Do not combine a map winner with that same map's round handicap and call it diversification. Those legs move together. The situations where you lose one are largely the situations where you lose the other, so what you have built is a single larger bet with two chances to be voided.
If you want more than one position, take them on different maps or on structurally different reads. Two correlated legs at combined odds is a book's favourite kind of customer.
The caveat
Map data in Valorant is thin. Riot rotates the pool, teams play a handful of maps per event, and three matches on a layout is an anecdote rather than a trend. Everything above is a nudge to a probability, not a conclusion, and one hot pistol round rewrites a round total in about ninety seconds.

FAQ
Should I bet a Valorant map before the veto is locked in?+
Betting before the veto means guessing which maps will even be played, which throws away information. If you can, wait until the veto is public or use live map-by-map markets, so you are wagering on a known layout with known compositions rather than an assumption.
How much recent map data do I need to trust a read?+
Prioritise quality over quantity. A handful of matches on the current roster and patch, weighted toward the most recent, usually tells you more than a large sample spread across old line-ups. When data is thin, such as on a newly added map, lower your confidence and stake accordingly rather than forcing a bet.
