M-Pesa is the entire payment story in Kenya. A deposit lands in seconds from a phone with no bank in the loop, which is a large part of why betting culture here is heavier and more casual than in most markets this size. Esports attention goes mainly to EA Sports FC and the mobile shooters, Call of Duty Mobile and PUBG Mobile, among an audience that is young and almost entirely phone-first. Worth saying plainly: how fast the deposit clears tells you nothing about the first withdrawal, which normally waits behind identity checks.

⚖️ Oversight changed hands recently, and older guides have not caught up: the Gambling Control Act 2025 replaced the Betting Control and Licensing Board with the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Kenya, which now issues licences and holds the register. Tax is the part that reaches a bettor's pocket. The Finance Act 2025 cut excise from 15% of the stake to 5% of the amount deposited into a betting wallet, the Finance Act 2026 kept the 5% but widened the base to any amount deposited for betting purposes, and from 1 July 2026 it also brought back a 20% withholding tax on winnings. Kenyan prices therefore have to clear deductions on the way in and on the way out before they beat the same odds elsewhere.

Plenty of books claim to take M-Pesa. The question worth asking is whether the money comes back out the same way, how fast, and who licensed the operator to hold it in the meantime.
M-Pesa is the fastest way most Kenyans and Tanzanians fund a betting account. Here is how deposits, withdrawals, limits, speed and safety actually work.
The BCLB is gone, replaced by the Gambling Regulatory Authority. More importantly for your bankroll, Kenya moved betting tax off winnings and onto the money moving in and out — then partly moved it back.
Betting law is national, so the answer changes at every border and we keep a separate page per country. An operator is listed only if it is licensed in this market or openly accepts players from it; where nothing qualifies, the page carries information and recommends nobody. A local licence and an offshore one are not the same thing, and the notes on this page say which applies here.
The rails that matter are the local ones: PIX in Brazil, M-Pesa in Kenya, UPI and Paytm in India, bKash or Nagad in Bangladesh, and crypto where a card simply will not go through. Each operator card lists the methods we found for this market. Card deposits fail more often than players expect in restricted markets, and that refusal usually comes from the issuing bank rather than the bookmaker.
Two different things, deliberately kept apart. Licensed means the operator holds a licence from a named regulator — often an offshore one such as Curaçao — which gives you a complaint channel, not local approval. Accepted means it takes players from this market without being licensed in it. Neither makes betting legal for you personally; that depends on national law, and where the law is hostile we drop the recommendations entirely.
Start with the top card on this page, then read its cons before its pros. The shortlist is filtered to operators that accept this market, so the order differs from the global ranking. "Best" is also personal: if you follow Rainbow Six or StarCraft II, catalogue depth beats a marginally sharper price on CS2 — and if you only back pre-match favourites, that depth is wasted on you.
Often, though it depends on the operator's payment partner in this market rather than on its marketing page. Where the local currency is unsupported you will be converted, and the exchange spread is a real cost no bonus offsets. Each operator card lists the methods we found here; confirm the currency in the cashier before your first deposit, because choosing it is easier than changing it later.
Then the page stops recommending. You get the legal picture, the payment landscape and what to watch for, with no operator list — an empty ranking is more useful than a padded one. If the rules change and a licensed operator opens up to this market, it enters the ranking on the same score model as everywhere else.
