Spain licenses online betting through the DGOJ and then makes it very hard to advertise. Royal Decree 958/2020 pushed gambling advertising on television, radio and video platforms into a 01:00 to 05:00 window, barred athletes and celebrities from appearing in it, and restricted the promotions used to attract new customers.

In April 2024 the Supreme Court partially annulled that decree, finding several restrictions disproportionate and reviving the use of celebrities among other things - but the sports sponsorship ban survived, and the government has moved to write the annulled provisions back into the Gambling Act itself.
