予想Cologne 2026 Is Done: Four Things the Major Board Got Wrong

The Cologne Major finished on 21 June with Team Falcons beating FURIA 3-0 in the grand final, and m0NESY taking MVP. If you were on the outright board in early June, that scoreline probably did not feature in your plan.
Previews are cheap. Grading them afterwards is where the useful part is, so here are four things the market and most of the preview content around it read badly.
Nobody grinds through RMRs any more
Cologne ran a 32-team field, and every place was filled by invitation off the Valve Regional Standings rather than a qualifier gauntlet. Regional Major Rankings events have not decided a Major since Austin in 2025.
That is not trivia. Under the old system, a chunk of pre-event analysis was about who had arrived broken, who had survived a nightmare qualifier and who had been forced into a stand-in. A ranking-based invite field removes most of that noise. It also means the participant list is knowable months ahead, which makes early outright shopping viable in a way it simply was not before. If you are still reading Major previews that describe teams battling through RMRs, the writer has not watched a Major in two years.
The format was less chaotic than people priced it
Three 16-team Swiss stages, then eight teams into single elimination. The detail worth money: every Stage 3 match was played as a best-of-three, the first time a Major has done that.
Bo1 Swiss rounds are where good teams die. Strip them out of the final stage and you strip out a large slice of the variance that used to knock top seeds out before the bracket. All-Bo3 formats favour the deeper roster, full stop. Anyone whose outright position leaned on "the format will chew up the favourites" was betting on a tournament that no longer exists.
A 3-0 grand final is not the anomaly it feels like
Best-of-five finals are supposed to be tight. They routinely are not. A team that has just been sharpened by a bracket of three-map series against a team that has been dragged through the same is a genuinely poor candidate for a correct-score 3-2 bet, whatever the price looks like next to 3-0 and 3-1.
FURIA reaching the final was the real story of the event. Getting there and then losing the final in straight maps is a very ordinary shape for a Major run, and the correct-score market is priced by people who know that.
What to actually do before Singapore
The second Major of 2026 runs in Singapore from 25 November to 13 December. Three things worth doing before the board opens.
- Read the format announcement for that event, not the one you remember. Cologne proved that stage formats move between Majors, and in advancement markets the format is worth more than form.
- Track the Valve Regional Standings through the autumn. The invite list is close to readable in advance now, so the early outright window is real.
- Do not pay forward for an MVP run. Individual Major MVPs are weak predictors of the next event, and the market will happily charge you for the memory.
None of this makes a Major easy. It is the most heavily scrutinised fortnight in Counter-Strike, the lines are the sharpest of the year, and the outright board is where casual money goes to die. Small stakes, staged entries, and no chasing after a bad Swiss round.
