"Bank transfer" covers two very different things, and confusing them is why people complain that transfers are slow when they are not.
The first is an instant domestic scheme: PIX in Brazil, NIBSS instant transfers in Nigeria, SEPA Instant across the euro area, and the bank-backed buttons that front them in Europe such as BLIK, Przelewy24 or MB Way. These settle in seconds, run at weekends, and are the local default in most of the markets we cover. In the euro area they are now also compulsory: Regulation (EU) 2024/886 required euro-area payment service providers to be able to receive instant euro credit transfers from 9 January 2025 and to send them from 9 October 2025.
The second is the legacy cross-border wire. It hops through correspondent banks, takes business days rather than seconds, and any bank in the chain can take a cut on the way. It is the right tool for a large, planned transfer and the wrong one for topping up before a match starts. Cut-off times apply to it as well, so a Friday afternoon instruction can sit until Monday without anything having gone wrong.
Bank rails are the strictest of any method on identity. The account you send from and withdraw to must be in the same name as the betting account, and a transfer from a spouse's, parent's or friend's account is the classic reason a withdrawal freezes into a compliance review. Brazil's rules make this explicit through the registered-account requirement; the same Regulation (EU) 2024/886 made a Verification of Payee check, matching the payee name against the IBAN before you authorise, mandatory across the euro area from 9 October 2025. Where that check exists, a mismatch now surfaces before the money moves instead of after.
A bank transfer leaves the clearest trail available: the operator's name, or its payment processor's, sits on your statement. In a regulated market that is a non-issue. In markets where betting is banned or gray, banks decline gambling-related transfers, and a returned cross-border payment can take a fortnight to find its way home. If that describes your market, a local wallet or crypto will be a smoother ride than arguing with a compliance department.
One cost is easy to miss on the way in and out: if the operator's account is denominated in a different currency from yours, an FX spread applies on both legs, which erodes the size advantage that made the bank transfer attractive in the first place.
Our operators publish country-specific method lists rather than one global list, and bank transfer appears in several of them, Nigeria, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan and South Korea among them. Confirm it in the cashier for your own country before you plan a deposit around it, and expect the first bank payout to be the moment document checks arrive.
